Ah comics. I do love them. They're so pretty, and they tell a good story.

But then, almost as often, they frustrate the hell out of you >.<. Whether they be manga or American comics. Both have their pros and cons- personally I think the American comics have prettier art (in color, too). That said, Japanese manga tend to have much better plot continuity.

Take for example, Deadpool. He's only my most favorite comic book character ever right about now (I'm only missing ten issues of the '97 series GO ME). But what the hell is Marvel doing to him?

I can understand his sudden popularity giving rise to a new series and some more guest appearances, etc. But now it's getting positively ridiculous. They're making the same mistake with him that they did with Wolverine, and now there's just too much. As someone at a community I visited recently put it, 'Deadpool's like sugar. He's good in small doses, but too much and your teeth will rot'.

It wouldn't be so bad if maybe the writers wouldn't ignore just about everything from past Deadpool comics. And I do mean everything. Deadpool #900 came out recently (and I do like it, for the most part) and therein Wade Wilson gets like his fifth contradicting back story.

Note to writers: Just because your character has been previously established to be so crazy he can't quite get the facts right about certain elements of his past doesn't mean we don't remember them. Wade's mother has now died when he was young, lived long enough to abuse him before kicking the bucket, and now she's passed in childbirth. WTF. If you make his dad an alcoholic birthday clown or something, I'm kicking your asses (one of the few things I've never seen changed is that he's military and lived longer than the mother).

More rage- WHAT THE HELL. Okay Marvel, I can almost understand zombie!Deadpool. He was hilarious in Marvel Zombies. But the Deadpool Corps?! No, no- we don't need a lady!Deadpool, dog!Deadpool, and kid!Deadpool in a monthly title. By the way, Deadpool already has his own loveable cast of characters. Where's Al? And Weasel? I haven't seen them since Cable and Deadpool (the only series besides the five issue Suicide Kings to have any kind of continuity to the original series). What about Bob? I know he was in a few issues of the current Deadpool title, but more of him would be cool. I love Bob. Outlaw was fun in Suicide Kings. How about some of Siryn? And speaking of a kid!Deadpool- WTF THERE IS ALREADY A POOLBOY FROM THE ORIGINAL SERIES IF YOU'RE SO DESPERATE.

(sigh) And if you can do absolutely none of that... could you at least get rid of the voices in Wade's head? He was crazy enough to begin with, and trying to pass off his comic awareness as a case of schizophrenia kinda sucks.

Putting rants aside, I still love Deadpool. The current series has some good moments, but I'm not much of a fan of the spin offs. Suicide Kings was excellent, of course, so naturally it's the only one that's a mini-series. But there is hope! Joe Kelly's (original writer who made Deadpool awesome) going to be writing the crossover with Spiderman issue! YAY! Kelly, please fix him! Make him awesome again! Take over the series and bring back Al and Weasel and explain all the stuff you couldn't do before!

Please?

Dear body, you have no right to be as sore as you are, whether you're sick or not. My shoulders haven't hurt so bad since my first week working- and it was my feet that were hurting the most at that time, so really. You make no sense.

As for the rest of you significant limbs and organs, stop joining in with the rest of 'em. It's been almost three weeks now, and I'm tired of being sick.

(sigh) Anyways. I hear Disney got the rights to air Naruto Shippuden on one of their stations. Disney? ...What the hell are you guys up to, acquiring all this stuff?

I wonder if they'll get new dub voices, and what edits will be made. Surely they won't be so stupid as to do what 4kids did to One Piece.

Now onto Disney's other new acquirement- Marvel Comics. I'm actually not sure what to think of this. Disney isn't a bunch of idiots, you know. And it's not like everything they make is kid friendly. The Pirates of the Caribbean movies, for example, were very entertaining. People even blew up, got stabbed, and Jack Sparrow got to lick his brain. So I don't think Wolverine will be trading his claws for daisies anytime soon.

To be honest, my only problem with Disney has been they're sitcom shows for kids. Those are so... epically boring. I miss all the cartoons. But I don't see a Marvel crossover with any of those coming soon.

And so to keep Youtube Friday surprisingly on topic, I bring you crack. I so want to put the first song on my iPod.

Dude, until this I never even thought about Pixar. It would be really cool to see them do something with the Marvel storylines.

You know... if Disney gutted the Marvel universe like this, it might be worth it just to see Punisher braiding Wolverine's hair. With a little pink bow like that. :3

Ah, but poor Deadpool being locked in the vault! I don't see that happening too soon either, though. He's consistently been one of their top ten sellers this year, so I think he's safe.

Speaking of the guy, I hear rumors that he's supposed to actually be joining the X-Men in a few months. O_O Oh Wade... you're going to be so excited, but you just know this is going to end badly. You never win in the long run. (pats)

First I bring bad news, dear flist. I returned to work yesterday to find out that after some issues with his family (whom he was staying with), Jesse finally had enough and has moved out of state. All within the few days I was off. ;_; I is deeply saddened.

In other news, another comic book came in today- the Deadpool arc of the Wolverine Origins series. I had the other five for a while now, but as I didn't have the first I couldn't really read them. The guy who did this one actually ended up taking over for the new Deadpool series, so I'm curious to see what I'm getting into. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about the writer (Daniel Way), so I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Anyways! When I got my comic, I was very surprised to see something else in the box I hadn't ordered. 'Tis a very nice copy of Spiderman #358, which seems to have a lot of other characters in it, including Punisher. I made sure it wasn't a mistake and all that I got it, but that's pretty sweet! I love free comic books. ^_^

Now on to the vid. This one isn't really from Youtube, but seeing as this just came out a few days ago, I had to share. The Nostalgia Critic teamed up with The Angry Video Game Nerd for a review, and until it was released nobody knew what they'd be reviewing. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be TMNT: The Making of Coming Out of Their Shells.

Yeah. This was SO something that needed to get burned. I was quite literally frozen in terror upon seeing some of this stuff. Makes me very grateful that previously I'd been smart enough to avoid everything else having to do with this before hand. My brain would have scars from me trying to pick the images out with my fingernails.

Fair warning: be prepared for swearing. XD

Just had a sudden weird thought. Best part of getting braces off is that you get to feel your teeth, right? Eat normal stuff again, etc.

So why the hell does it always end with trading out one piece of hardware with another? Retainers are seriously uncool in these regards. In fact, I do not see the point of wearing them 24/7... AGAIN. This will be the third time around for me.

So. I think I'm just going to wear mine at night and whenever else I may feel like it.

Anyways, so I've been at mom's house the last few days. Yesterday was spent with me catching up on sleep- the day I'd come up, I'd only had three hours of sleep the night before, as I had to wake up for the damn morning driver's ed >.< . Plus only three the day before that too, when I'd gone to get my brces removes. So I was wiped. Thus sleep is good. My brother woke me up this morning though with breakfast- brought me a little tray with some juice he'd made and a bowl of Apple Jacks. He sure can be a sweet little demonspawn when he wants to. :3

Hrm.... what else? I should talk about Deadpool some more. There's still plenty of people on my flist who are still unaware of his awesomeness, I'm sure. XD

I think this is the first character since TMNT that I've wanted to write fanfiction for. Even if I have no idea what I'd write about, even though he'd be one of the most difficult characters to write (what with the insanity, humor, dark history, pop culture references and breaking of the fourth wall O_o), I want to write him!

I'm thinking about getting another one of those fifty sentence prompt thingies as practice. Maybe it'll inspire something, too.

In the meantime, I need to learn to limit myself on what I buy. I've already spent a small fortune on collecting these comics, and I probably only have a third of them.

This is mainly due to the fact that most issues from his '97 solo run, if you can find them, are around seven dollars at their cheapest. Series lasted for sixty-nine issues. You can see my problem.

Two TPB's got me issues 1-8 though, with two mini-series, an annual, and a one-shot thrown in. After that I've gotten 9-19, 25-27, and 32 and 33. That's still a lot of missing ones! Deadpool is so exspensive. T_T

Thus after I get myself a few to fill the missing gaps I have, I'm going to set a limit on myself. Like... forty bucks a paycheck or something. And then make myself read the ones I have very slowly.

So the braces are finally coming off in a few hours. Thank God- my mouth needs to feel normal again, dammit. I'm tired of these things cutting up my cheeks.

Unfortunately, the appointment is in two hours and ninety miles away from here. In the Land of Pi, this translates into waking up around four in the morning (9 AM for everyone else around). UGH. So tiiiiiiired. And I have to work after all of this is done. >.<

I am hoping for my third shipment of Deadpool comics to keep me awake. (huggles them close) They're good for this purpose. Though it's so unny reading them- I'd totally forgotten what it's like to read pre-present day comics. The pages are so very papery! Not smooth like they are now a days, and a lot thinner. I'm using extreme care in reading them.

Someday I am going to buy a scanner. And then I'm scanning one of the ones I just got. Because it is hilarious. Deadpool vs. Wolverine with the former villain and now therapist Dr. Bong encouraging a mental breakthrough on the sideline. (dies all over again)

First off, Jesse is like the most awesome co-worker ever. I don't think I say this often enough. But he's funny as hell, plays the Insult Game with me, buys me Mike's Hard Lemonade, sings badly while throwing the truck, and if you poke his belly button he'll laugh like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. XD

Anyways. Time for more on Deadpool. :D

Yes, I hear the mass groanings. Do I rave this much about my new fandoms usually? I don't think so. Most of my lve was already established for TMNT and Avatar, and I think the only other one that came quite as close in print was One Piece (which I still heart, by the way).

But seeing as his fanbase is so small, I must go out and get as many people interested in him as possible. So far, I think I've gotten like six people interested on and off the nets. Good start, but there is much more to be accomplished!
Also, I need icons. As soon as I get Photoshop transferred to my new laptop, I'm making some.

So here's Friday Youtube!

EDIT: Read the new Naruto chapter. WTF. I didn't want Kakashi to be dead and all, but what a lame ending. Reset button much?

Today wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Then again, since I had to cut my overtime and thus go home nearly two hours early, I guess that's to be expected. ^_^

But life is already getting back at me for it. Tomorrow's truck is a good five hundred pieces more than today's was. And this time we'll only have three people. O_O;

Lastly, my laptop is dying. Recently it fell when I had it plugged in and the connection broke off. Was a pain in the butt to get it out. At first I thought it'd be fine since I could just use the AC adapter from my old laptop, but I'd forgotten how messed up that one was. Very unreliable... and a little unsafe.

So I bought a new one today. Unfortunately I didn't realize until I'd gotten it home that someone had already opened the thing and stolen a piece. So I went back to the old one until I could return it tomorrow.

Turns out it was already on it's last leg. Zapped my toe a few minutes ago. >.< And now the battery is quickly dwindling away- even on the power saver option. Rargh. Hopefully I'll get a working AC adapter soon.

Also... there needs to be way more Deadpool love. Like seriously. You can't even call it a fandom- it's more like a decent sized and loveable cult. There's a serious lack of decent fanfiction/vids/art/EVERYTHING.

BUT Hot Topic does have a Deadpool t-shirt. Victory is mine!

Okay. So I don't think I've been very good on keeping this journal up to date on the people I work with. Which is surprising, considering I was so very happy with one change (still squeals about it). So here's a brief overview.

Kathy was sent to go on the remodel team to another town. Thus she shan't be seen for three wonderful months. We were all very happy. :D

Few weeks later, Michael left for some militairy training. However, he got medically discharged, which I hear is really depressed him. He should be back soon, but I'm not sure when.

Then yesterday I came to work to find out that Aaron injured himself somehow last night and now he has to go be a people greeter for a week. We've also heard rumor that he won't be able to come back to the ICS at all, but I'm still waiting for that to clear up.

Nevertheless, it really screwed up our team. We had four people last night, didn't get to any picks, and Jen and I had to deal with claimsing four buckets of paint. Took us an hour, which we now have to kill tonight.

That works out pretty badly for Patrick and Paul, who are the only other ones working with us tonight. Four people again, seeing as Billy has this week off since he had to go out of state to get his car back. UGH. The only day this week where we're actually going to have more than four people is on Monday. I'm going to be so very sore. I so need a raise.

All righty. So onto that stuff I said I'd do! First thing up is that little fic of mine. Like I said, it won this week over at [info]avatar_contestmuch to my surprise. I'll let you guys be the judges.

Title: Foot Notes

Characters: Toph, Katara

Rating: PG

Warnings: Post-Series, but not in a spoilerish way.

Word Count: 239

Summary: There's not many reasons Toph would blind herself by wearing shoes.

This stinks--I can't even see three feet in front of me. )

And now to pimp some fic that isn't mine.

Muah, I love crossovers. Well-done crossovers, mind you. Any author who can successfully blend two (or more!) universes together convincingly is brilliant in my book.

So I pretty much jumped at the chance when [info]ivy_chanhad a meme in which she'd drabble fic two characters from different series.

I'm, uh, a very selfish requester indeed, Heheh- five requests from me. But I gots them! And they all turned out very, very beautifully. Which is to be expected. As this is Ivy.

Anyways! So just in case no one else saw them, I'm pimping them out to this small crowd here.

First up is a TMNT/Justice League one, in which Mikey meets The Flash. Then we have a most gorgeous TMNT/Avatar one with Leo and Zuko. Third is Naruto/Avatar with Sakura and Katara. Fourth is a TMNT/Naruto one, with Shikamaru and Splinter and it is most awesome. And finally another Naruto/Avatar drabble, this time featuring Hinata and Toph.

GO READ. Awesomeness demands it. :D

Oh yes. And now it is Youtube Friday!

So I went on Youtube the other day, as usual, when something in the Video Suggestions caught my eye. You see- I've never bothered looking for a Deadpool AMV. He's never been in a cartoon/movie long enough to make an AMV out of, so I never thought I'd find anything. Naturally, I was sure there'd be some pic ones, but ones like that that include attention to detail vs. random image are hard to find.

This one had my attention though. Comic image. Now I have seen some really neat AMV's done using comic images, so I clicked the little linky and watched the vid. And I enjoyed it very much. :3

If anyone chooses to watch this, this comic is almost like his origin. Weapon X did their stuff, considered him a failed experiment, and after a string of events he ended up where you see him here. "King of the Deadpool", after all the near-death experiences he goes through he begins to see Death and falls in love with her (kid you not) and the two plot for him to die so they can be together.

21 May 2009 @ 04:11 am

My days have been rather strange lately. First we have five days a week which completely wear me down to Pi-shaped jello but at least provide me with some form of social behavior. Then we have my two day weekend which provides me with the much needed relaxation (when I actually get it, mind you) but goes way too damn fast for me to relax, thus usually ends up consisting of me spending around thirty-two hours feeling generally very lonely and trying to make myself realize that I will always be this social recluse and should therefore just give up and admit it already.

This is the norm. I state it because the past two days (my weekend) deviated from this pattern, for the most part.

Started out basic enough. 'Cept this time I got to sleep in, which I haven't been able to do for a while because of driver's ed (I'm in the second class now, and therefore no longer have to repeat the classroom setting). Woke up, played around the house for a bit. And then I decided I wanted to treat myself. Do something nice outside the house, yatta yatta. So I called the local movie theatre to see what was playing.

Turns out one of the two movies was Star Trek, and I figured I should see it soon before someone at work spoiled it for me. Like my situation last time I tried to see a movie here, there was but one showtime. Conflicted with meeting schedules, but as I don't really skip those unless work has me so tired I can't move to get up and go, I figured it couldn't hurt.

Plans made, I then spent the next hour or so debating whether or not I should tell my Grandma. These kind of conversations can get rather irritating and I was in no mood for one. In the end though, I decided to call her. Only polite to let her know not to pick me up, right?

Sometimes I really hate having a conscience. Nine times out of ten, it leads me to doing something that should be the wise course of action  but actually just ends up with me very upset.

Naturally this was one of those times. Grandma was pissed, I was pissed with her accusations, and I looked like a schizo when I ranted about it to myself on the way to the theatre.

That wasn't the good part about my weekend. No worries- it got better this time.

As I'd left pretty early, before the movie I stopped in at a supply store. In the back they has baby ducks and chicks. They were all very fuzzy and cute and tiny and made me feel all warm inside. And that kinda set the mood.

Went to see Star Trek. It was made of awesome.

Spoilers: The Final Frontier! )
The trailers were also pretty sweet. Second time seeing the one for the new Transformers movie, and it continues to look awesome. I was surprised with the GI Joe one though. Man, I'm so behind! I had no idea that one was coming out so soon! It too looked really neat. :D

Anyways, went home and [info]ivy_chan gave me crossover goodness! This entry is long enough as is, so I'll explain my love for crossovers and provide links to each drabble she did tomorrow. Trust me though- they're brilliant.

Okay, so yeah. That was day one. I ended it in a much better mood. Relaxed, went to bed, etc.

Today I woke up earlier than I'd have liked, but I went out in service with my friend, her cousin, and his wife (they're a young couple, very nice). I went to a door with the cousin and met a very nice man who used to be a contractor. He'd bought this old house and was restoring it. We had a nice discussion with him, but it was kinda new for me. I think that was the first time I was ever invited so quickly into someone's home without anyone saying anything besides the fact that we're Jehovah's Witnesses. Exciting, but like with many other religious activities, it made me nervous. I think he could tell too. Gotta work on that. >.<

Still! Good experience!

When service was done, I went home for a bit but was actually invited with my friend to the aforementioned couple's home. They had barbecue chicken and homemade potato salad (I don't like potato salad usually. And I hate mustard, which this family uses a lot of. But holy crap, I'll be damned if tha wasn't the best potato salad I've ever had) and chips with homemade dip (cucumber and cream cheese- again, it was delicious). To top it off, my friend made apple pie from scratch while we were there. Oh my... so gooooood.

We ate it while watching one of the cousin's favorite movies, Galaxy Quest. I actually hadn't seen this movie for a very long time. I could only remember one part acutally, but I remember thinking the rest was really stupid. It wasn't, surprisingly. It was actually pretty damn funny! And ah- kindered spirits with the fanboys. XD

Nextly, I won this week's fic contest at [info]avatar_contest . I wasn't expecting it all so it was a pleasant surprise. I actually didn't post my fic here because I wasn't impressed by it, but since it won I will. Er... another thing I'll do tomorrow when I wake up. I is tired.

Last but not least for my good weekend- some of my Deadpool comics have finally shown up. I have read The Circle Chase, Sins of the Past, and the first issue of his 1997 solo series. I have the next nine issues plus an annual in another book, but I'm saving them for the rest of the week. Seriously though- this is love.

If anyone's interested, I've found scans of the first issue online. Say the word and I'll provide linkage.

Come onnnn. You know you want it. :D

I bought $100 in comics the other day. >.> My, I've never been so adamant about hunting down these things since I set out to collect all of the TMNT CIty at War comics.

Of course... that's just thirteen issues, as opposed to the thirty something (from three different series) I purchased. Not done yet, but sanity eventually kicked in and was all 'Do you want to continue eating for the next two weeks?' ^_^;

Anyways- and now Youtube Friday. Yoraee is awesome. I cannot tell you how awesome. But most of you will already know anyways and have very likely already seen this. In case not- WATCH.

I love it when she takes an anime and turtlizes the opening. This is one of the more original of the bunch though, instead of being a comparison video. (hearts it)

Muah
My futon is lovely. I can lay down and watch television at the same time now. Hooray!

Funimation dub for One Piece continues to pwn. Got the fourth DVD set yesterday and have already watched half of it. The 4kids dub is slowly but surely being erased from memory.

I have officially become a Deadpool fan. After reading The Top 70 Deadpool Moments (Comic Version), I decided there was just no way I could continue casual interest in his character. There just so much to it! And the supporting characters- it's all so amazing.

I decided that I simply had to collect all of his comics. Unfortunately, however, I'm already hitting some road blocks. The ones from his first solo run are really hard to find and the ones I have found (which is only half, mind you), run anywhere from five to thirty dollars an issue.

I've found two TPB's that were released collecting some of the first few, which thankfully saves some time and money. But these were released within a year from one another, so I don't know how fast-moving they'll collect the other issues.... However I do this, it will be slow going collecting them.

Though maybe the new Deadpool movie will get the ball going on that one. If not, than I can still squee over the fact that there's going to be a Deadpool movie XD. Also? Marvel Studios is going to produce this one. Thank you God- if anyone can bring some canon back into his storyline, it's them.

Probably gonna be a while though. I mean, there's a whole slew of movies that were first in line. Deadpool's gonna have to get in line behind Magneto... and the second Iron Man movie... and Nick Fury (Wow, really?)... and Ant-man... and Thor... and Captain America... and the Avengers movie.

...This movie will come out in 2012, if I'm lucky.

Then again, movies have a weird way of development. Example being that I'd heard of the Magneto movie a while back, but I just recently found that hwile the script is done, it hasn't been greenlighted. On the other hand, the new Iron Man movie is already filimg. (shrugs) Who knows.

In the meantime, I shall satisfy myself with comics. (waits on the mail)

...Not to switch topics again, but speaking of comics! There's been an update on MNT: Gaiden!

Mad world... just got even madder... )
